TA2/GR2 Titanium Plate & Rod: Versatile Pure Titanium for Corrosion Resistance and Lightweight Engineering
TA2 (Chinese standard) and GR2 (ASTM international standard) refer to the same grade of commercially pure titanium, a widely used α-type titanium material with Ti content ≥99.2%. It stands out for its balanced moderate strength, exceptional corrosion resistance, excellent ductility, and reliable biocompatibility, serving as a preferred choice for harsh environment applications and high-performance components where steel and aluminum cannot meet long-term durability demands.
With a density of just 4.51g/cm³, roughly 57% that of steel, TA2/GR2 delivers impressive lightweight performance without compromising structural stability. In annealed condition, it reaches a tensile strength of 345-440MPa and yield strength of 275-320MPa, with elongation above 20% for outstanding plasticity. This combination of low density and decent strength creates a high specific strength, making it ideal for weight-sensitive engineering designs while ensuring steady load-bearing capacity.
Superior corrosion resistance is the core advantage of TA2/GR2. It naturally forms a dense, stable titanium oxide film on the surface, effectively resisting oxidation, seawater, chloride ions, and most weak acids and alkalis. It performs reliably in marine, chemical, and humid industrial environments, with minimal corrosion rate and strong resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. Unlike many metals, it avoids stress corrosion cracking in chloride environments, greatly extending service life and reducing maintenance costs.
TA2/GR2 also features excellent processability and weldability. It can be easily rolled, forged, cut, machined, and bent, adapting to diverse processing needs. Its weldability is outstanding, forming strong joints with consistent performance after welding, no post-weld heat treatment required in most cases. It also supports various surface treatments to further enhance wear resistance and appearance.
TA2 titanium plate and titanium rod have targeted applications. Titanium plate is widely used in chemical reactors, heat exchanger linings, seawater desalination equipment, marine structural parts, and corrosion-resistant tanks, thanks to its flat surface and good formability. Titanium rod is suitable for machining shafts, valves, fasteners, medical implants, and precision connectors, with good machinability to achieve tight tolerances and smooth finishes.
This material also excels in medical and aerospace sectors, thanks to its non-toxicity and excellent biocompatibility, making it safe for surgical implants and medical device components. It also performs well in medium-temperature environments, with good heat resistance for aerospace auxiliary parts and high-temperature equipment fittings.
Our TA2/GR2 titanium products comply with GB/T 2965 and ASTM B348 standards, covering full specifications of titanium plates (various thicknesses and widths) and titanium rods (diameters 5mm-200mm). Each batch undergoes strict testing for chemical composition, mechanical properties, and surface quality, ensuring defect-free and stable performance. Custom cutting and precision machining services are available to meet diverse project needs.
For projects requiring corrosion resistance, lightweight design, and long-term reliability, TA2/GR2 titanium plate and rod are cost-effective and high-performance solutions, suitable for harsh industrial, marine, medical, and aerospace applications.
